BHMA Signs Hotel Management Deal for New 5-star X2 Eco-Resort in Hoi An

HCMC, 14 May 2018 BHMA Hotels today announced the signing of an agreement with Vietnamese developer Ixora Real Estate to manage the hotel operations at the new X2 Resorts & Residences at the UNESCO World Heritage destination of Hoi An, near Danang in central Vietnam. The signing ceremony was held on 11 May 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City, with BHMA represented by its CEO Anthony McDonald, and Ixora represented by its founder David Chang.

The exclusive 7-hectare eco-resort will be located on 650 meters of prime river frontage along the Coco River. Just minutes from the white sands of An Bang Beach and other popular beaches, it is also close to the charming historic old town of Hoi An. The resort features 70 private villas with 2 – 4 bedrooms and private pools, and a hotel comprising 31 loft units and 56 suites. The property will incorporate a range of world-class facilities such as infinity swimming pools, a library, spa and health club, restaurants and bars, a canoe station, children’s play zone, and both organic and hydroponic gardens amidst the tropical landscaped grounds. BHMA Opens New Office in Indonesia for Hotel Management Expansion

Bangkok, 27 March 2018 – BHMA has recently announced the opening of a new office in Indonesia, marking a significant commitment to expanding the business further into one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing hotel markets. The Flight Centre Travel Group has been operating in Indonesia for several years having established travel and tour operations offices with a staff of more than 100 in Bali. It is anticipated that the hotel management division under BHMA will complement the Group’s current business activities in the country, taking advantage of Indonesia’s strong tourist arrivals record and projections for further growth.

BHMA will manage its Indonesian expansion from new premises in Sanur, Bali, close to the existing Flight Centre Office. Heading up the operation will be Mr. Clement Sebban, who has been appointed Country Manager for BHMA in Indonesia. Clement will be responsible for hotel development in Indonesia, including technical assistance, pre-opening and post opening operational phases.

Indonesia is a growing market and one of the key markets for our company, so having an office there can help our operations and allows us to respond to our clients’ needs more effectively,” said BHMA CEO Mr. Anthony McDonald. “The Group currently buys almost 400,000 room nights a year in Bali alone, so it is important for BHMA to find hotels and owners that want to maximize their hotel asset returns, and partner with us in the large business opportunity.”

BHMA will open the X2 Bali Breakers in the third quarter of this year. The resort is in the well-known area of Balangan Beach, south of Denpasar. This property will offer 60 private pool villas, 3 pools, a lounge bar, an all-day dining restaurant, spa, ballroom, and destination wedding chapel.

At present, BHMA is targeting four more properties by the end of 2018 in Bali – two in operational and two under development. Looking further ahead, the focus will also be placed upon securing additional hotels and resorts in new destinations across eastern Indonesia such as Lombok, Sumba, Komodo Island, and Raja Ampat.

BHMA Expansion Showing Strong Results Across all Brands for 2017

Bangkok, 16 February 2018 BHMA has recently been pursuing a strategy of rapid expansion throughout Southeast Asia, and the recent release of key operating data for 2017 bears out the continued success of this approach. Most notably, the company saw revenue up 17% compared to 2016, which could largely be attributed to an increase in the size of the portfolio.

BHMA operated 16 properties in 2017, up from 12 in the previous year. These can be subdivided by brand: X2 Resorts – 9 properties (up from 8); X2 Vibe Hotels – 4 (up from 2), and Away Resorts – 4 (up from 2). The additional properties gave BHMA a boost in terms of management fees which made a significant contribution to revenue growth.

The operating figures for the 16 properties under BHMA management showed a notable rise in occupancy across the board, up by 20%pts on the previous year; the biggest increase came in the X2 Vibe category which enjoyed an increase of 31%pts in the latest reports, indicating a very positive customer response to this particular new brand.

For each of the three brands, an increase was seen in RevPAR for 2017 over the 2016 numbers, and ADR rose substantially for the X2 and Away Resorts. A slight decrease in ADR for X2 Vibe was offset in terms of RevPAR by the substantial rise in occupancy. More importantly, gross operating profit margins rose markedly overall by a healthy 5.5%pts, and GOPPOR increased in all brand categories.

CEO Anthony McDonald stated that he was very pleased to announce these consolidated results for BHMA, noting that the achievements were testament to the effectiveness of the strategy employed and the dedication of staff throughout the organization. “It is absolutely critical that expansion is made in the right markets with the right targets, and the latest figures indicate that we have been able to do precisely that,” he explained.

Looking ahead to 2018, BHMA is set to consolidate its current growth with further portfolio additions in Q3, including the X2 Vibe Hoi An Residence and the X2 Vibe Viet Tri Hotel, both in Vietnam, and the X2 Oceanphere Residence in Pattaya. Furthermore, a new office will be opening in Jakarta to meet the rising demand for the company’s services among investors across Asia.

Bangkok, 31 October 2017 – BHMAsia CEO Anthony McDonald has announced the appointment of Frederic Garnier as the company’s new Senior Vice-President. Frederic has already onboard as the Senior Vice-President from 16th October 2017.

Frederic is already a familiar face at BHMAsia, having served as the company’s Vice-President of Development since 2014. He brings twelve years’ experience in the hospitality industry with expertise in both hotel operations and in the field of business development. Since commencing his hospitality career as the youngest General Manager for the Accor Hotel Group at just 24 years of age, Frederic has gone on to develop strong operational, financial, and analytical skills. Acquiring experience with luxury brands such as Sofitel through to budget chains such as Ibis, Frederic has gained a broad industry overview while heading a range of different departments from accounting to food & beverage, until his last posting with The Erawan Group in Phuket where he was the General Manager for the pre-opening and opening of a 260-room hotel on the island.

Frederic has already made a significant impression since joining BHMAsia in 2012 when the company was positioned as a Thailand-based boutique operator of six resorts. He has helped this portfolio and pipeline expand to nearly 50 properties across Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Australia as BHMAsia has established a major regional presence. Frederic has held a succession of increasingly responsible roles during this period, setting up and supervising the head office operations, and facilitating the recent company acquisition by Flight Centre Travel Group.

Bespoke Hospitality Management Asia Agrees to Strategic Acquisition by Flight Centre Travel Group

Bangkok, 7 July 2017 – Bespoke Hospitality Management Asia (BHMAsia), an emerging Asia-based hotel management company, announced it had agreed its acquisition by The Flight Centre Travel Group (FLT). The acquisition will be FLT’s first investment in the accommodation sector and will strengthen its rapidly expanding in-destination travel experiences division, currently being the company’s third core business pillar, alongside its extensive leisure and corporate travel operations. FLT is one of the world’s largest travel agency groups; it has company-owned operations in 14 countries and a corporate travel management network that spans more than 75 countries. It employs more than 19,000 people globally and has a total of 3,000 stores, with annual group revenues in excess of USD$14bn.

Chief Executive Officer, Anthony McDonald, said the acquisition would help fast-track BHMAsia’s growth. “Strategically, this is a perfect fit – Flight Centre has customers that need hotels and BHMAsia has hotels that need customers. By leveraging FLT’s global distribution network, BHMAsia-managed hotels can deliver improved returns to their owners and an end-to-end experience for FLT customers”.

The company is taking on larger properties, including the recently opened 266-room X2 Vibe Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok, and is poised to expand its footprint into Vietnam (Hoi An and Danang) in 2018.

Bangkok, 23 March 2017 Alexandre Amine Chaoui takes over as CFO in order to improve the internal controls and financial management of BHMAsia and its properties, and to prepare the financial operating systems in readiness for the company’s anticipated growth. Amine, who holds a master’s degree in finance from HEC Paris in France, has previously worked with Barclays Investment Bank and has extensive experience in France, the UK, Thailand, Myanmar, the UAE and Africa. His previous roles have encompassed financial modeling, analysis, management and structuring, financing and fundraising, investment banking, and hospitality finance and investment, providing a rich skill set as Amine takes up his new position.
